Well, I’ve been extremely busy lately, which is why I have been slacking. Forgive me, but you know life happens.

Once again it’s Beyonce Knowles-Carter’s week. I’m slightly annoyed that we have yet to hear or see a single, but The King surprised her French Beyhive with a performance of “Grown Woman.” Go ahead a press play if you haven’t seen it before Sony takes it off the interwebs.

Blue Ivy’s mother also released a beautiful and sunny H&M commercial featuring a new song titled “Standing on the Sun.” Get into that dark mane…

Janelle Monae shared a dream collaboration with the often imitated, but never duplicated Erykah Badu. Listen to “Q.U.E.E.N.”, which will appear on Monae’s sophomore LP The Electric Lady.

Vogue Brazil unveiled the May 2013 cover featuring Naomi Campbell. Minus the hideous wig, Ms. Campbell is giving it to you like it’s the 90′s. Iconic.

Get your rosary beads and holy water out because Azealia Banks has unleashed the weirdest video of the year. The dark visuals for “Yung Rapunxel” will surely get folks talking, but I’m sure Banks is use to that by now. However, the video actually makes me like the song a little more… Strange.

Fashion Spread: Beyonce as Mrs. Carter in H&M

H&M just released the full ad campaign for “Beyonce as Mrs. Carter in H&M” and King Bey looks amazing as usual. Although Mrs. Carter’s body is to die for and the swimwear looks cute, I really wish she would put her arm down in at least one of the photos. But hey, maybe that’s the look H&M was going for. Check out the pics below.

Throwback Thursday: Queen Latifah – “U.N.I.T.Y.”

Sometimes I forget how talented Queen Latifah is. She’s a rapper, singer, actress and a great role model. When I was a child, I remember wanting to grow up to be Khadijah James and own a hip hop magazine. (I actually still want to be Khadijah James.)

In honor of the last Thursday of Women’s History Month and the belated birthday of Queen Latifah, I decided that “U.N.I.T.Y.” was worthy of a spin. This is one of the most important hip hop songs ever made and it’s a shame that this message still rings true.

Kudos to the Queen. Happy Women’s History Month!

Girl Talk Episode 1: “5 Ways to Make Yourself Happy”

I am excited to inaugurate (such an official word) Outskirt’s podcast series Girl Talk. Each week I’ll be discussing a different issue pertinent to women, although men are allowed too. Sometimes it’ll be me solo dolo, while other times I’ll speak with friends or interview experts and notable ladies.

Despite my weird voice and a strange drop in quality around the 3:30 mark, the first podcast turned out pretty good.

This week’s episode “5 Ways to Make Yourself Happy” was sparked by Roko Belic’s 2011 documentary “Happy,” which is available on Netflix. It’s a film that sets out to answer the essential question “What makes people happy?”. I urge everyone to find out more about “Happy” on the film’s website and do a little something every day to make yourself smile. Here’s five things that you can do:

Crush of the Week: Toro Y Moi

Toro Y Moi has been innovative, talented and… well, cute since he released his debut album Causers of This in 2010, and the creative South Carolina native continues to please fans with his unique brand of electro-pop. His latest album, Anything in Return, hit the world earlier this year and I have been in pure bliss.

Fresh off of his SXSW performance, Toro Y Moi has just released a new video from Anything in Return, and it further proves just how cool he is. C’mon, you know you’re cool when you barely appear in your own video. (Plus his real name is Chadwick. COME ON.)

Outskirt’s Week in Review: March 22

It’s been an interesting week in pop culture. Let’s just get in to it, shall we?

Bey Season is in full effect, and Beyonce hasn’t even released an official single (we think?). Everyone, including Keyshia Cole, had something to say about “Bow Down/ I Been On.” I personally loved the Houston-influenced song, but some people think it’s offensive for sweet, little Beyonce Knowles-Carter to curse… Because it’s only 2013, right? In the midst of the chatter, retail giant H&M officially announced that Beyonce would be the face of their new summer campaign titled “Mrs. Carter in H&M.” Make that money, honey.

Miley Cyrus, who has strangely become more likable as an adult than her days as Hannah Montana, decided to film her twerk after a photoshoot. Like all things that make no sense-it went viral.

For all of you “Girls” fans that are already having withdrawals since the second season wrapped: Lena Dunham recently sat down with the folks at “Playboy” for an interesting interview. For all of you who are tired of seeing Dunham naked: she kept her clothes on. Head over to Entertainment Weekly to read some highlights from the Q&A.
